I would like to update all members on the Captains Day event planned for Long Sutton on Friday 14th August.
The SGC Executive Committee last met (via Zoom) on Sunday 19th July.
As a committee we signed off the event subject to cost, catering arrangements and compliance with the mitigations we identified in our own risk assessment. Plans had reached an advanced stage.
Last week, our attention was draw to England Golf’s decision to cancel all England Captains and Seniors events for the remainder of this year, and this has prompted a rethink on our captains day event. In their press release, England Golf state “we have now reached the stage that current government guidelines, particularly surrounding the indoor congregation of people from different households, have not improved sufficiently to accommodate the social nature of these events.”
We were also aware of the Government’s limit of 30 for gatherings indoors.
Over the weekend, the Vice-President consulted all members of the Executive Committee, and, reluctantly, the decision has now been taken to cancel the event.
We appreciate that this will be very disappointing for those of you who were looking forward to playing, but the priority we attach to safeguarding the health of our members means that we must follow not only the national guidelines set by the Government, but also the guidance and precedent set by the governing body England Golf.
The Executive Committee would like to publicly thank Rob Ford who has been working tirelessly on this project for many months, and we can all appreciate how difficult these negotiations have been during these very strange times. Thank you Rob.
We will now turn our attention to the Autumn Meeting which is due to be held at Worlebury Golf Club on 24th September. Further details will follow as soon as possible.
